Planning Commission

Appointed By:City Manager
Length of term: 5 years.
Meetings: 1st Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

Duties:
The Planning Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Manager and City Council. The Planning Commission is charged with regulating the use of public and private land, buildings, and structures, and the location, height, bulk, number of stories, and size of buildings and structures, size of yards, courts, open spaces, density of population, ratio of land area to the area of buildings and structures, setbacks, area required for off-street parking, protection of access to direct sunlight for solar energy systems, and such other standards, requirements, regulations, and procedures as are identified in the City’s zoning ordinance.

The Planning Commission reviews land use applications and forwards recommendations to the City Council. The Planning Commission formally adopts an official land use and zoning map and regulations designating appropriate locations and requirements for the use of land and facilities, and enforces ordinances protecting such sites against incompatible developments.
