The Longview Fire Department provides fire and emergency medical first response services for approximately 35,000 citizens in an area of over 12 square miles.
We are staffed by 36 career firefighters and three student firefighter interns. They are overseen by three shift battalion chiefs. These firefighters are assigned to three 24-hour shifts. The department has no fewer than nine line personnel and one battalion chief on duty 24-hours a day. We also have an administrative battalion chief who works day shift to assist the Chief and to backfill for the shift battalion chief positions. Our fire marshal works out of the main station and at Community Development. We also have a fire secretary, and a chief which makes a total of 46 employees.
Firefighters respond from stations located at 740 Commerce and 2355 38th Avenue. The average response time to fire and emergency medical calls in the City of Longview is 5.2 minutes in response to approximately 5,147 annual calls for service.
The Fire Department is an all-risk service delivery system and will respond and mitigate any incident that has harmful physical effects to persons or property. In addition, the department also provides fire code inspections, new construction plan review, public education programs and fire investigation services.
The City of Longview provides a desirable insurance rating of Class 4 throughout its service delivery area as determined by the Washington Surveying & Rating Bureau.
