Traffic Cameras are the topic for Longview City Council’s March 18 Workshop

The use of traffic cameras will be the workshop topic for Longview City Council on Thursday, March 18 in the Longview City Hall Training Room, 1525 Broadway.  The workshop will include a demonstration by Advanced Traffic Systems, a camera vendor, as well as a review of the City of Renton’s traffic camera ordinance, discussion about traffic accidents in our area, and potential areas where cameras could be installed.

Outreach Story Time Volunteers Needed

Do you enjoy working with kids? Are you excited about reading and literacy? If so, we can use your help! The Family Literacy program at the Longview Library is in need of volunteers to read stories and do activities with children ages 0 to 5 at local daycares.

The Family Literacy program offers story time to children in daycares in our area using library material. Stories are chosen by the literacy coordinator.   Volunteers will work in pairs and go to assigned daycares to read stories to the children.  Each child receives a book during the visit, courtesy of the Longview Library Foundation.  Share your love of reading!  Become a volunteer at the Longview Public Library.

More information:  To participate in the program you will need to fill out a volunteer application, undergo a background check, and have an orientation with the Family Literacy Coordinator.  Please call Jennifer King at 442-5324 for more information and to see if this opportunity is right for you.

Equa-Chlor presents special artwork to Longview Fire Department

The Longview Fire Department was recently presented with a special piece of artwork from the Equa-Chlor company.  The metal wall hanging of a silhouetted firefighter in front of flames conveys the company’s heartfelt thanks to the fire department’s efforts during a traumatic incident over the Christmas holidays in which Equa-Chlor lost one of their employees in an industrial accident.  The art work is proudly displayed in the Station 81 conference room.

New sign markers now adorn downtown Longview

The City of Longview would like to personally thank the tireless efforts of Bill Kasch of the Longview Historic Preservation Commission for his hard work in obtaining new marker signs for downtown Longview.  Bill received support for the project from the Longview Downtowners and the Downtown Advisory Committee as well as approvals from the Community Assessment Action Team.  He designed the signs and found reasonably priced markers for about $1,000 each.  After City approvals for placement of the markers, they were installed at 15th and Broadway, 12th & Commerce, and just south of Vandercook Way near Bank of America.  Bill did all the fund raising personally through local businesses, groups, and individuals.  Thank you, Bill!
