Park Neighborhood Grants Available
Concerned over their ability to fund all the neighborhood park needs in Longview, the City Council has approved the funding of the neighborhood park grant program for the twelfth year. This program will provide resident groups with matching funds for neighborhood improvement projects. The deadline for submitting an application is Feb. 1, 2009.

Winter Storm Update
What a Holiday season this has turned out to be with our first white Christmas since most of us can remember! All City offices remained opened to provide services for our residents. City of Longview street crews worked tirelessly throughout the winter storms to keep our roads as clear as possible. The street crew installed its two plows, its two grit spreaders, and snow chains onto dumps trucks on December 16, the day before the first storm. These two rigs and a support vehicle operated 24 hours per day from December 17 to December 22, and twelve hours per day until December 28, including Christmas. They plowed, roughened surfaces, and/or applied 100 yards of rock, 50 yards of sand, and/or 1,500 pounds of salt to over 2,610 miles of hill streets, local collectors and arterials, and even hit State Routes 4 and 411 a few times. All sand gravel applied to city streets will be recycled as the street sweeper moves throughout the city.
Special thanks also go out to Parks and Streets divisions for clearing City parking lots, and to the City’s Fleet division for keeping the rigs chained and functioning, even in the wee hours of the morning. Thanks also go out to our Police and Fire departments for their extra efforts during the storm.
