Wells to be drilled at Mint Farm Industrial Park
The Longview City Council approved a $24,000 contract to construct four shallow monitoring wells at the Mint Farm Industrial Park. Work is expected to begin in late January or early February. The 2-inch diameter, 100-foot shallow wells will monitor groundwater quality and be used to design production wells that eventually will supply the city’s water drawn from the deep aquifer. The City will drill four additional monitoring 400-feet deep wells in April. The first of six production wells will be drilled at the site in July. The new treatment plant is expected to begin operation at the Mint Farm Industrial Park at the end of 2011.

Winter library programs begin January 20
Teens are invited to “Discover, Investigate, Share Your World” during Winter Programs at the Longview Public Library. The Megatokyo theme is a spin on a popular online manga telling the tale of two hardcore American gamers stuck in Tokyo with no money where they have to deal with ninjas, giant lizards, androids, the undead, schoolgirls, and more. “Teen Tuesdays” are free fun for middle and high school students at your Longview Public Library, and run January 20 – March 7, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. (longer for films). No registration required.
Children’s winter programs at Longview Public Library take the theme “Reading Never Wears Me Out!” from Ian Falconer’s irrepressible pig, Olivia. Olivia is a pillar of self-confidence and enthusiasm promoting independent thinking, ingenuity, and persistence and will be starring in a new 3-D animation beginning January 26. Storytimes and family programs are free fun for all ages at your Longview Public Library. The library programs run January 20 – March 7. Registration required.
