Joint City of Longview and Cowlitz County Town Hall Meeting Set
The recent unusual weather events have caused land movement in an area of Longview south of Lone Oak Road and west of the Cedar Gates Road neighborhood. Currently, the affected area is limited to land south of the residences on Lone Oak Road, where evidence of ground cracks and soil movement has recently been observed.
Based on preliminary investigations of the affected area, neither City nor County officials believe there is any evidence of immediate danger to adjacent residential structures at this time. However, monitoring of the affected area is warranted and will be ongoing. Citizens living adjacent to the affected area have been asked to report any observed changes in landscape or structures that might be related to continued or new land movement.
A town hall meeting is planned to provide information to concerned citizens and allow opportunity for questions on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Cascade Middle School Cafeteria, 2821 Parkview Drive in Longview.

Proposed “Crime Prevention Plan” presented to Council at January 22 workshop
This past year, the Longview Police Department has been researching ways to reduce the city’s crime rate to below or equal the state average. To help with this endeavor, the City hired the Police Executive Research Forum, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit research and consulting firm, to evaluate the police department and collect input from residents. The focus areas of proposed crime reduction plan include increasing patrol and investigations, a structure reorganization, community policing and problem solving, emphasis on technology, emphasis on hiring, recruitment and retention, and consolidating public safety facilities to a single location.
More information: Visit the Police Department web pages to view the plan in its entirety, and also the presentation made to Council.
