City of Longview will participate in OutsideIn Expo this weekend

The City of Longview will be at the Cowlitz Regional Conference Center this weekend to take part in the Chamber’s Business Expo called “OutsideIn.”  The expo, with its focus on sharing information, strategizing for success and offering business services and products, is slated to be among the most significant networking events for business in Cowlitz County.  Longview’s Assistant City Manager David Campbell will be on hand on Friday to share resources available from the City to assist local businesses.  On Saturday, he will be providing lots of great information about our community.  Other City officials will also be in the booth from time to time.  Stop by and say hello and see what’s happening at the City.

Longview City Council will hear about trees on February 19

The City’s Urban Forest Maintenance Management Plan establishes standards for the management of trees within the city limits of Longview to ensure that the city will continue to realize the benefits provided by its urban forest.  Longview City Council will be hearing about the plan at the February 19 Council meeting.  The plan has three key objectives:

  • Preservation - protection and active promotion of current urban forestry principles and practices
  • Management - The establishment and implementation of a tree management program to provide maintenance and preservation of existing public trees and an orderly program of tree planting for the future
  • Guidelines - Create guidelines for location of tree plantings, recommend tree species to be planted, establish of maintenance schedules and guidelines, and identify and evaluate trees to be removed.

Students at R.A. Long High School awarded ‘Youth Leaders for Literacy’ grant

The City of Longview would like to recognize the efforts of R.A. Long High School students who received a recent “Youth Leaders for Literacy” grant from the National Education Association (NEA).  Moved by the message of compassion after reading “Thirteen Reasons Why,” a novel about teenage suicide, members of the R.A. Long Library Club created “13RW: Pass It On!,” a project geared toward high school students that teaches suicide awareness and prevention—as well as the importance of kindness. As a national winner, R.A. Long Library Club will receive one of 25 grants of $500 provided by Youth Leaders for Literacy. The national competition received more than 200 entries. Way to go, hometown heroes!
