Longview receives traffic improvement grant from WSDOT
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced the award of $15 million in federal grants to be used by cities and counties to significantly reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roads. Longview applied for and has received $200,000 for signal upgrades and crosswalk/intersection improvements at 14th and Broadway. The Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) Grant application was submitted in an effort to improve reported accident zones in the downtown area. The project involves cross walk/curb modifications and new countdown pedestrian signal improvements. The goal is to shorten the crossing distance/time and to provide pedestrian awareness of the remaining crossing time, yet maintain the current signal time. Work will begin this spring with construction and completion by late fall 2009.

Reception at the Koth Gallery will honor Leon Lowman, the 2009 Hans Schaufus Featured Artist
A reception will be held on March 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Koth Gallery to honor exhibiting artist Leon Lowman. Lowman, chosen to be the 2009 Hans Schaufus Featured Artist, exemplifies an artist who has made a genuine commitment to art and who continually seeks new plateaus. His work today is a reflection of his lifelong passion for surfing spent in, on, and around the waters of the world. Through acrylic paint, collage and canvas, brilliant colors come alive in pieces of art that often are as large as the ocean. Lowman’s work will be on display at the Longview Public Library’s Koth Gallery through March 11.
