Mother’s Day Gifts available from the Friends of the Longview Library
The Friends of the Longview Library will be holding their annual Mother’s Day Miniature Rose Sale on May 6, 7 & 8 in the library's solar entry beginning at 10 a.m. daily. The sale ends at 5 p.m. on May 6, at 6 p.m. on May 7, and at 4 p.m. on May 8 or until the roses are gone. The miniature roses are specially wrapped and make perfect gifts for mothers, grandmothers, and other special people you want to recognize on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10. They also make wonderful gifts to recognize a special teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week, which is May 3 through May 9. The miniature roses are $5.50 each, or three for $15.50. Proceeds from the sale fund special library projects that fall outside the library's budget. Help support the library and honor that special someone at the same time by buying a rose, and know that you are also helping to make additional library programs possible.

Longview will be conducting crosswalk enforcement at 15th and Commerce Avenues near LCC over the next several months
Following a 2006 pedestrian fatality near Lower Columbia College, the City of Longview applied for and received a pedestrian safety grant to install an in-ground warning light system and an overhead flashing, beacon-activated system to increase visibility of the crosswalk at 15th and Commerce Avenues. The grant was funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation. To test the effectiveness of the new system, Longview Police Department conducted two crosswalk enforcement details on April 30. Eighteen Notices of Infractions were issued for Failure to Yield to Pedestrian in Crosswalk (RCW 46.61.235). One of the violators nearly struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Crosswalk enforcement is a requirement of the grant to ensure that motorists are stopping for pedestrians at the intersection. Longview Police Department will continue to do crosswalk enforcement details at this intersection for several months.
