1414 Club works to improve the appearance of downtown Longview
The City would like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of the Longview 1414 Club in working to improve the look of downtown Longview. The club has partnered with downtown to provide clean-up services such as litter pickup and sidewalk sweeping in exchange for tables and chairs. The City granted the funds to purchase the equipment to the 1414 Club in exchange for their clean-up services, requiring that at least two people from the club work a minimum of four hours per week. To date, the club has worked 280 hours since the beginning of the year. This unique collaboration is a win-win for everyone. The equipment will be used for daily meetings that address substance abuse, including Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
Cowlitz County’s wastewater treatment plant achieves a perfect record in 2008
Wastewater treatment plant operations just keep getting better in Washington to the benefit of residents and clean water. Cowlitz County’s Three Rivers Waste Water Treatment Plant was one of 92 plants in the state to have a perfect track record in 2008! The award-winning plants passed all environmental tests, analyzed all samples, turned in all state-required reports, and avoided permit violations during 2008. Representatives from Ecology will present “Outstanding Performance Awards” to our wastewater treatment plant operators at a public event during the coming weeks.
