City Hall goes 24/7 with “ASK Longview”

Ask LongviewThe City of Longview is about to make it even easier for you to contact us with your requests, questions, and concerns.  On July 1, ASK Longview was launched, a new tracking system that will allow you to contact us 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The system features simple pull-down menus and is a breeze to use.  To make a request or leave a comment or question, just click the blue “ASK Longview” button on our home page (www.mylongview.com).  ASK Longview will greatly improve the way the City handles your requests by:

  • Creating a unique case number for each request so that you can easily track its status at any time
  • Automatically informing you about the status of your request and notifying you when the request has been completed

More information:  Any questions about ASK Longview can be directed to 442-5004.

Inoperable, abandoned, and junk vehicle restrictions

Unfortunately, some car owners abandon old vehicles or let them sit without thinking about the consequences.  The City of Longview continues to receive a large number of complaints about inoperable, abandoned, and junk vehicles and their negative effects on our neighborhoods.  In addition to being eyesores, abandoned vehicles can encourage vandalism and arson, promote blight and deterioration, invite plundering, create a haven for rodents and insects, and can injure the health, safety, and general welfare of a neighborhood. These vehicles can also be an alluring danger for curious children. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), two or more children on average die each year from exposure related to being trapped in such a vehicle or trunk. Code violations involving inoperable, abandoned, and junk vehicles may incur a minimum fine of $500.

To be considered operable, a vehicle must:

  • Be fully operational under its own power
  • Have all operational and safety-related components maintained in a manner that makes it legal and safe to operate on a public street
  • Be currently licensed

More information: Questions about inoperable, abandoned, and junk vehicles may be directed to the Code Compliance Division at 442-5093 or 442-5082, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Learn more about inoperable, abandoned vehicles.
