Go Play!: Non-Profit Organization KaBOOM! Names Longview One of 93 “Playful City USA” Communities
KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing play back into children’s lives, has recognized Longview for its dedication to play by naming it a Playful City USA for the third year in a row. Longview Recreation offers many safe affordable quality programs for all ages in physical activity, enrichment, and play. These programs help reduce obesity and increase health and well being. The City of Longview continues to challenge itself by integrating play into current projects which include a riverfront trail planning grant, a water front park grant project, the design of a neighborhood park master plan, construction of a neighborhood trail and new and renovated basketball courts. The City also created a new partnership with the United Way to place interactive “Born Learning” trails in two of the City’s parks. The trails include play and learning stations, while enhancing the opportunity for preschoolers to interact with their parents or guardians.
