The Friends of the Longview Public Library is seeking new members
Do you live outside of the Longview Library district? Are you interested in earning a library card? Do you live in Longview and want to help the community? If so, the Friends of the Longview Library can use your help. The Friends of the Longview Library is a non-profit organization that provides additional support to the library. We carry out many activities that enhance the quality of the Longview Public Library. We conduct the library book sale, the Mother’s Day rose sale, and the Senior Concert in December, just to name a few. We give money and volunteer support to many library functions such as the Children’s Summer Reading Program, Project READ, Northwest Voices, and many more. Please join us October 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Longview Library Auditorium for an informational meeting with dinner provided! Also, applications to join the Friends are available in the Longview Public Library.
More information: Please call Elizabeth Partridge at 442-5321 for more information.
Northwest Voices Welcomes Nena Baker on October 20
Nena Baker, author of The Body Toxic: How the Hazardous Chemicals of Everyday Things Threatens Our Health and Well-Being, will appear on Tuesday, October 20 as part of Northwest Voices. She will do a workshop at LCC (room PSC-104) from 3 - 4:30 p.m., and a reading at the Longview Public Library at 7 p.m. that is co-sponsored by the Willapa Hills Audubon Society. Baker graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 1981 and made her career as a reporter and an editor for a number of magazines and newspapers before turning to books. “These days, I live in Portland with my partner, two dogs and three cats. I’ve reluctantly agreed to quit bring home stray pets. So I write, practice yoga, and work part-time as a licensed private investigator.” Northwest Voices is a collaborative literary program between LCC and the Longview Public Library and is supported by the Associated Student body of LCC, the Friends of the Longview Library, and the Longview Library Foundation.
More information: Read more about Northwest Voices on the library’s website.
