Ukulele, Beginning

A unique and inexpensive way to have musical fun with family and friends. A ‘take anywhere’ instrument anyone can play with easy and simple instruction. Students must bring their own ukulele. For more information about the class or purchasing a ukulele call 425-3786

Want to get return on your investment? Save money on insurance, tax filing, and professional assistance. For new or experienced investors interested in buying and understanding rental property for income or retirement and the rights of being a landlord. Also discuss rents, codes, fi nancing, appraisals, leverage, rental agreements, property condition, smoke detectors, water heaters, credit form and more.

Residential Landlord-Tenant Act & Laws

New or experienced landlord? Learn about local and federal discrimination laws, landlord/tenant rights, rental agreements and leases, codes, tenant selection, evictions, etc. Handouts and forms on rental agreements, property condition report, smoke detectors, water heaters and applications. Class provides knowledge not legal advice.

Excel Introduction

Manage your household budget, learn a new skill for the office, chart your weight or estimate what your trip will cost. With Excel you can do all of these and more. Get hands-on experience in setting up spreadsheets and understanding how they work. Gain experience in creating formulas and functions as well as charting your results.

Computer Basics

This course is a friendly introduction to the world of computers using the Windows Operating System. Gain experience while you learn terminology, functions, hardware, and software basics with hands-on practice. Learn the basis of the Windows desktop environment along with control panel settings and basic file management. Review and practice word processing basics and look
at other Windows-based programs. Designed for those with little or no computer background.

Spanish, Beginning Conversational

Have fun while learning basic Spanish vocabulary, grammar and phrases, for use while traveling or in the workplace. Instructor has experience teaching at college and for the Ethnic Support Council.

Dog Obedience 101

Designed for dog’s ages 3 months thru adult. This class will help you to teach your dog basic manners including sit, down, stay, come, walk or lead without pulling, and ‘leave it’. Behavior problems (jumping, barking, digging, chewing) will be addressed. Dogs must have rabies vaccination.

Dance & Activity

Belly Dancing, Beginning

Discover bellydancing as a form of aerobic and muscle toning exercise. Learn the foundations of slow and fast movements, muscle isolations, shimmies, and playing finger cymbal rhythms to bellydance music. Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing. Fun for any ability level. Instructor has 26 years teaching experience. First timers will need to purchase a set of finger cymbals for use beginning with the fourth class.

Belly Dancing, Intermediate

Learn variations of basic movements and new dance combinations. Class will also include turning dance movement into dances, introduction to veil dancing, and new finger cymbal rhythms. Please wear loose fi tting, comfortable clothing. Prerequisite is beginning bellydancing or previous bellydancing classes.

Belly Dancing, Advanced

For students that want to specialize in bellydance with choreography, group dancing, and using props for creative stage performance. Advanced veil and dance movement techniques with varied rhythms are incorporated into style and dance presentation. Focus on learning and practicing for dance in various venues and participate in class dance projects.

Hula

Learn the various types of Hawaiian dance: Hula Kahiko and Hula Auana as well as the costumes used for each. Then learn the basic foot and hand motions, and complete choreographies.

Line Dancing

Line dancing is an activity that provides physical fi tness, increases memory skills and promotes social skills. Instructor has 23 years of experience teaching. Learn line dancing to all styles of music. It’s not just country anymore. Practice CD is included in class fee. No partner needed.

Lunch Hour Line Dancing

A very basic line dancing class. Line dancing is a great social activity that provides physical fitness and helps increase memory skills. Learn easy moves to all styles of music. No partner needed. Practice CD included in class fee.

West Coast Swing, Beginners

This class is designed to give the beginning west coast swing dancer a firm foundation for this challenging dance style. Lots of practice time on the basics.

Night Club, Two Step Beyond Beginning

Review the basics then explore new tricks and combinations. Learn how to execute ‘breaks’ and combine them with turns into complex patterns.

Nutrition Tips for Heart Health

Learn fundamental diet and lifestyle changes you can make to strengthen your cardiovascular system. This information will be especially helpful to anyone with a personal or family history of hypertension, high cholesterol, heart attack or excess belly weight. Learn what you can do now to prevent heart disease later.

Furniture Making

Learn basic furniture making techniques with stationary tools from an experienced woodshop teacher. Once you learn the basics, you will work at your own pace and make any project you desire. Supplies (wood, nails, glue) not included, but use of all tools and equipment is. All skill levels welcome.

Soap Making

The art and craft of soap making is neither difficult nor mysterious. Discussion on essential oils and natural ingredients. Take home soap samples. Receive hands on experience and a sample taken home with you.

Basket Weaving

Learn the art of twined reed basketry while making a simple trivet. Advance your skills by making an egg basket by learning the art of ribbed basketry.

Pine Needle Basketry

Learn the art of pine needle raffia basketry. The intricate teneriffe center looks more difficult than it really is. Leave with completed ornament and the skills and materials to make your own basket.

Planning a Home Greenhouse

Learn practical options for constructing or purchasing a hobby greenhouse and how to get the most fun and benefit from greenhouse ownership. Construction topics included are structure, glazing, worthwhile features, plant support, environmental control and maintenance. Greenhouse usage topics will include choice of plants for pleasure and food, plant health and growth, pest control, automation, and hydroponics for the hobby greenhouse.

Women’s Health: Managing Menopause

Do you have hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, irritability, and can’t remember where you put your keys? Learn the physiology behind menopause and what you can do to help yourself or a loved one through this major life transition. A brief overview of dietary, herbal, HRT, and bioidentical hormone options will be included.

Ultimate Frisbee Summer League

Ultimate Frisbee is a mixture between soccer and football using a Frisbee and is a great way to get into shape. Teams will be put together using the self-evaluation form filled out by individuals at the time of registering. The league includes all ability levels so come take part in one of the fastest growing sports around.

Golf Lessons

This is a great class for beginning golfers or for those who have not had lessons on proper golf swing techniques. All equipment and balls provided. Instructor is a P.G.A. Professional. Sign up at Longview Parks & Recreation Offi ce, 2920 Douglas Street.
