Summer Tennis Camp



MVRF TENNIS PROGRAM
Every MVRF program will help you develop sound effective strokes which will be the foundation for a lifetime of tennis. At camp we will help develop proper stroke mechanics, match-play strategies, good practice habits, and stress the importance of competing with the proper mental attitude which will help you play your best and win more matches.

CAMP DIRECTOR AND STAFF

Tennis director Don Harlan formerly served as the Director of Tennis in Salem, OR at the Illahe Hills Country Club for five years. Don comes to the Mint Valley Racquet & Fitness Complex after spending three years in Portland, OR as an assistant and Director of Junior Tennis at the Multnomah Athletic Club and most recently as the former Director of Tennis at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, WA. He has gained his reputation through years of dedication to the development of the young player. He has over 29 years of tennis experience and is certified by both the United States Professional Tennis Association and the United States Professional Tennis Registry.


The staff, which consists of other teaching professionals, has been carefully selected and trained and are enthusiastic and committed to the development of each student.

    Tennis Camp Schedule


    MVRF CAMP SCHEDULE   (registration form)

    All camps are two weeks long. Team Tennis, Varsity, and Junior Excellence camps are three hours per day, four days a week (Monday thru Thursday).
    Rookies and Aces camps are one-and-a-half hours a day and meet four days a week (Monday - Thursday). Tiny Tots and Mighty Mite camps will meet for one-hour and fifteen minutes, Monday thru Thursday.

    Camp Policy


    Please print all information required on registration. All balances due must be received prior to the start of each session enrolled.
    All make-ups must be completed by the end of the 2004 summer session. No refunds will be given once the session you are enrolled in starts.

    Tiny Tots               8:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

    Mighty Mites           8:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
    Rookies                 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.


    Aces                     3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Team Tennis           2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Varsity                   10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Junior Excellence     10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

  • TINY TOTS
    (Ages 5-6)

    For beginning and advanced beginning players.
    The emphasis is on the fundamentals of basic strokes and footwork. We will cover all the basic strokes of the game, develop hand-eye coordination, and improve muscle coordination.

    MIGHTY MITES
    (Ages 7-9)

    For beginning and advanced beginning players.
    The emphasis is on the fundamentals of basic strokes and footwork. We will cover all the basic strokes of the game, develop hand-eye coordination, and improve muscle coordination.

    ROOKIE CAMPS
    (Ages 9-14)

    For beginning and advanced beginning players.
    The emphasis is on stroke development. We will teach you proper technique in a way that will make it easy to learn. You will understand the correct mechanics of each stroke, enabling you to improve long after camp is over. The simplicity of the strokes we teach will give you ball control and the ability to play immediately.

    ACES / TEAM TENNIS CAMPS
    (Ages 9-14)

    Aces: advanced beginning. Team Tennis: advanced intermediate players.
    These camps are for 'Rookie' and 'A' level tournament players. We will continue to emphasize stroke development. You will continue to learn proper technique in a way that will make it easy to learn. Students will be challenged with advanced drills and physical conditioning that will help them become a tougher tournament player.

    VARSITY TRAINING CAMP
    (Ages 14-18)

    This program is designed for those players that have High School Tennis or tournament experience.
    In this camp you will join other motivated players in your age group that are interested in improving their skills and moving up on the team ladder. We will help you simplify and strengthen your strokes, improve your conditioning, and help make you a better doubles player.

    JUNIOR EXCELLENCE TRAINING CAMPS
    (Ages 11-18)

    MVRF Junior Excellence Camps are for those players interested in pursuing tennis to their highest level possible.
    These camps are specifically designed to help you become a tougher tournament player. You will be challenged daily with advanced drills, physical conditioning, and match play in a well focused environment.
    This is an intense program designed to improve your tournament results. Participants should have a current USTA ranking or be among the top three of their high school team. All players must be pre-approved by the Camp Director.

    MVRF TRAVELING TEAM

    In addition to the MVRF Junior Camps, participants will have the opportunity to travel to several USTA sanctioned tournaments and inter- club exchange matches throughout the Pacific Northwest. These trips will be personally chaperoned by the director and his staff.
    While on the road, you will be competing against high-level competition and will receive valuable coaching that will help you implement and improve your skills that you have learned in camp.
