Art & Enrichment Beginning Painting Learn basic acrylic painting techniques. Participants will learn how to shade, layout a design, with the focus on animals. Class supplies are covered by supply fee.
Age: 7 - 12 Flower Design Come to this one day camp and learn how to arrange fl owers. All participants will have the opportunity to enter arrangement in the county fair. Local flower club members will be on hand to give instruction and assist in arrangements. Flowers will be provided.
Age: 8 - 17 Future Little Artist Travel with me under the sea. Basic art skills will be taught by fun ocean creatures. Participants will learn how to use watercolors, pastels, pencils and paint. Join us while we make several art projects, explore the ocean fl oor and have fun.
Age: 5 - 8 Future Little Carpenter Join the staff at ACE Hardware to learn basic carpentry skills, identifying tools, how to use them safely, and make special projects to take home. Recreation Staff will assist students with projects.
Age: 7 - 12 Jewelry & Beading Learn basic techniques to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets and anklets. Students will make beaded projects to take home.
Age: 8 - 12 Sew & Craft Camp Show your creativity and make some extra money by entering items in the Cowlitz County Fair! Participants will have a variety of projects to choose from such as a quilt, teddy bear with outfi t, rag doll, tote bags, pillow cases, stuffed animals, pillows, skirts, shorts, crafts out of rocks, popsicle sticks, & foam. This class is for participants of all sewing/crafting levels. Sewing machines and tools provided. Supply lists available upon registration.
Age: 7 - 12 Shutterbugs This creative photography class will involve children using nature for inspiration. Each day we will study an aspect of nature and photograph a different subject. Assignments will include photographing fl owers, trees, birds, the lake and landscapes.
Age: 8 - 12 Sign Language Learn kid friendly vocabulary, poems and songs. ASL dictionary helpful.
Instructor has 20+ years experience in teaching sign and children.

Science & Culture Wizards Magic School Kids will learn amazing magic tricks from a professional magician. Soon things will appear & disappear at their will. This class will teach up close magic that will amaze friends and family. A performance will be held on the last day.
Age: 8 - 12 Around the World Day Camp Learn about languages, geography, customs, games and foods from different cultures around the world. Make a passport and get it stamped as you visit different countries! This is a great camp to help keep young minds open to our culturally diverse world.
Age: 7 - 12 Identified Flying Objects Learn how to build, fly, navigate and play games with different identified flying objects including kites, frisbees, rockets, paper airplanes and much more.
Age: 6 - 10 Future Little Scientists Create fizzing, bubbling, sticky creations using chemistry, basic geology and physics experiments. Full of experiments and loads of fun for all future scientists!
Age: 5 - 9 Nature Explorers Enjoy the world around you in this specialized nature day camp filled with lots of educational and enriching hands-on activities. Experience something new each day: insects, fish, animal tracking, recycling, treasure hunts and trees. Included with these activities and exploration will be a variety of art projects, crafts and games.
Location: Woman’s Club Building, 835 21st Ave. Skull Duggery Taught by a local fish and wildlife biologist, classes will cover animal skulls and skeleton identifi cation, anatomy and wildlife biology. Each participant will extricate modern real animal skeletons from a stone-like matrix, just like a real paleontologist.
Age: 8 - 12 Super Sleuths Sherlock Holmes and ‘C.S.I.’ watch out! Students will solve mysterious crimes using science experiments, breaking codes, discovering fingerprints and looking for clues.
Age: 8 - 12 Performance & Music Introduction to Theater Students are lead through an introductory world of pantomime and improvisational acting. Students will begin to create their own characters and situations. Along with being primed for further stage study, improvisation improves listening skills, inventiveness and helps young actors develop confi dence and ease on stage. The class ends with a performance open to family and friends. The instructor is a professional actor who performs and teaches children’s theater in the Portland area. Participants should bring a lunch each day.
Location: Woman’s Club Building, 835 21st Ave. Kids Idol Camp Want to become the next American Idol? This is a noncompetitive class designed to let you shine. Learn exciting audition tips, performance skills, vocal technique, and energetic choreography. There will be a dynamite performance at the end of the session.
Age: 7 - 12 Guitar, Beginning This is a guitar basics class especially for the younger musician. Participants will learn single strings, basic cords and strum patterns. Participants may bring their own guitar or we have some available to use.
Age: 7 - 12 Guitar, Intermediate For those who took beginning guitar or have previous experience, this is for you! Come learn new songs, skills, and have fun playing the guitar.
Age: 7- 12 Horsemanship, Beginning Enjoy games and exercise while learning English riding skills that build confi dence. Expert instruction is provided in basic horsemanship including safety, rules, grooming and tacking. Participants must wear riding shoes or shoes with a heel. Class will be held in an arena either indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather.
Age: 7 - 15 Horsemanship, Intermediate Continue to improve your horsemanship skills. Beginning Horsemanship is required prior to this class. Age: 7 - 15 Voice Lessons Develop your solo singing skills through controlled breathing, tone creation, posture, phrase and melody. Learn how to read music and find your style and direction using exercises and selections from a variety of music styles.
Age: 8 - 12 Piano A great exposure for those with little or no piano experience! Fun activities, keyboard games and much more. Great for beginning wind and string students who want to build a strong musical foundation.
Age: 8 - 12 Health & Activity Ballet, Beginning This is a creative movement class for beginners. Children will learn the basics such as turn-outs, correct posture and alignment for the arms, body, feet, and head. Please wear comfortable clothes, please no jeans.
Age: 6 - 9 Baton Basics Students will learn the basics of baton and hoops learning technique and skills while increasing their grace, self esteem, and confi dence in a positive and productive way. Please bring your own baton, hoop, water bottle, and dress comfortable. Participants will perform in the Kids Day Parade at the end of July.
Age: 6 - 12 Bowling, Beginning Learn proper bowling skills and meet other bowlers. Fee includes professional instruction, equipment, shoes, and two or more games of bowling each day.
Age: 8 - 12 Front & Back Handspring Class is designed for those who are looking for new tumbling skills and have previous tumbling experience. Class will focus mainly on back and front handsprings, walkovers, and the necessary fl exibility/strength training. Cheerleaders and dancers especially welcome. This is a great way to master those difficult moves that will ‘WOW’ the crowd.
Age: 10 & over Hula Dance Discover the various types of Hawaiian dance. We will cover basic foot and hand motions, and learn a complete choreographed dance. Please wear comfortable clothes. Family combos welcomed!
Age: 4 & over Skateboarding, Beginning This is a great class for kids who want to be more confi dent and gain skills with their skateboards. Bring skateboard, helmet and pads. Meet at the Recreation Office.

Age: 7 - 15 Tumbling, Beginning Come increase your coordination, strength, fl exibility and balance while learning basic tumbling skills. Participants will learn basics of various rolls, balancing, and fl exibility.
Location: Catlin Center, 106 NW 8th Ave. Education & Enrichment First Aid Students learn emergency response skills, rescue breathing, and ways to prevent and care for choking, wounds, nosebleeds, falls and animal bites. Student also learn leadership skills and safe and responsible home alone skills. Exceptional Red Cross certifi ed instructors make the camp a fun and educational experience.
Age: 8 - 12 Spanish, Beginning Explore the Hispanic culture with traditional games, crafts, stories and learn new Spanish words and phrases and discover that you may already know a few. Take the fear out of learning a foreign language. A parent/guardian may attend class to help facilitate learning and practice for an additional cost.
Age: 8 - 12 Kids & Critters Join the Humane Society Staff for a week. Complete crafts, play games, listen to guest speakers and enjoy a snack. This hands-on class will provide animals great and small, so please do not bring any pet from home. This is for children who have not taken the camp before.
Age: 8 - 12 Safe on My Own Children will learn how to handle being home alone, including basic first aid training, personal safety, internet safety, basic first aid, how to respond to strangers at the door or over the phone, and sibling care. Classes are cosponsored with the American Red Cross.
Age: 8 - 12 Jr. Chef Academy Participate in a fun-fi lled and creative cooking class which features snacks& easy meals. Nutritious snacks are created and sampled by the class. Participants bring home recipes and entertaining ideas to try at home.
Location: Monticello Middle School, 1225 28th Ave. Whales Tales Water Safety Learn the rules for safe water activities. Participants will learn how to recognize potential dangers of swimming alone and unsupervised, how to stay safe and calm in an aquatic emergency & perform a safe water rescue.
Age: 7 - 12 Sports Golf Lessons This is a great class for beginning golfers or for those who have not had lessons on proper golf swing techniques. All equipment and balls provided. Instructor is a P.G.A. Professional with many years of teaching lessons. Sign up at Longview Parks & Recreation Offi ce, 2920 Douglas Street.
Age: 9 - 13 Kung Fu Lessons This is a fast-paced class for boys and girls. Introduce your child to the positive benefi ts of Kung Fu. Self-discipline, confi dence, coordination, strength, fitness and fl exibility will be developed. Participants will also learn to listen and achieve goals as well as how to deal with confl ict in a non-violent way.
Age: 5 - 13 Co-ed Soccer Camp Soccer skills are introduced and reviewed throughout camp and games are played to cover all aspects of soccer. Camp is open to boys and girls. Participants will be grouped with to accommodate age and skill level. Bring a water bottle if the weather is warm.
Age: 6 - 12 Red Devil Soccer Camp Young players can fi ne tune their game with 8 hours of coaching before soccer season begins. LCC Soccer head coaches will provide instruction for the campers focusing on individual technique and team play.
Age: 7 - 13 Start Smart Youth Sports Camp This program prepares children for organized sports in a positive environment. Start Smart is a national youth sports program that teaches beginning skill instruction, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun! Activities will focus on the weekly sports and activities below.
Age: 6 - 9 Tennis Lessons, Indoor Lessons will emphasize the fundamentals of the basic strokes and footwork. We will cover forehand, backhand, serve and volley. These lessons will help develop hand-eye coordination, and improve muscle coordination. The simplicity of the strokes we teach will give you ball control and the ability to play immediately.
Age: 7 - 12 Lumberjill Hoop Camp Campers will learn basketball skills that will help them become an all around sound Hoop player. Each participant receives a camp t-shirt. Prizes and awards will be given. Camp is open to all area girls.
