Recycling Division

The City of Longview's curbside co-mingled recycling program is set up with the same containers as the solid waste program, but recycling containers are brown instead of green.

Co-mingled simply means that all the recyclable material generated within a household can be mixed together in the same recycling container. The recyclables are separated at Waste Control's Materials Recovery

Solid Waste Division

Solid Waste Division

Longview is unique because our streets and alleys are part of R.A. Long's design for a planned community. Over half our residents have alley access. Those residents and multi-family units with alley access have 300-gallon, green solid waste containers called tubs. These tubs are shared, four to five households per tub within an alley. Those residents who do not have alley access have a 90-gallon, green solid waste cart on wheels.

Carts should be placed out for pickup at curbside no later than 6 a.m. on your regular collection day. Garbage and recyclables are picked up at different times by different trucks. Please keep your carts at least four feet apart, if possible, to allow the automated truck the ability to maneuver without tipping over the carts.

If you feel your container was missed on a regularly scheduled collection day, check to see if a tag was left on the container by the Waste Control driver. A tag could be left for several reasons:

  • Container is too heavy for truck for lift
  • Container is too far away
  • Container is facing the wrong direction
  • A vehicle is blocking the container
  • Lid is not properly closed on container

If your container is tagged and not emptied, the violation needs to be corrected prior to the next collection day. The City will provide a special collection for a fee.
