Transportation Improvement Program
|
 |
The purpose of Longview's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) planning is to provide more consistency to the local transportation program, including the full range of transportation improvements being considered for the upcoming time period. This planning also provides a more up-to-date indication of needed improvements.
Local agencies are required to comply with the Washington State Six-Year Transportation Improvement programming laws, RCW 35.77.010 and RCW 36.81.121. TIPs must be developed for each time period in cooperation with the state, and must comply with regulations issued by the federal government. Federal code requires that a TIP be updated at least every two years, which allows for adjustments in the relative priorities of transportation improvements. Agencies also must comply with Federal law for any project undertaken using Federal funds. Federal regulations require TIPs to cover a three year period, but can encompass longer periods of time if priorities are identified and financial information is available for the extended period.
Project identification is generally accomplished individually for locally and Federally-funded projects, with project selection through the MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization) for Federally-funded projects.
The City of Longview' Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program public hearing is typically held at the first City Council meeting in the month of June.
