Water Supply Project

Informational Publications

Our community is faced with a significant challenge. The water treatment plant, which provides drinking water to City of Longview and Cowlitz PUD customers, is increasingly unreliable due to its age, increasing river sediment due to the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, regulatory deficiencies in the intake structure, and increasing demand for water as the community grows.

Tough Choices

Over the last several years, Longview City Council and City staff have evaluated several potential long-term solutions for continuing to provide a safe and reliable water supply.  The evaluation continues to support the idea of constructing a new water treatment facility and developing a new groundwater source at the Mint Farm.  From extensive testing and analysis of the Mint Farm option, we are confident there is an abundant supply of high quality groundwater which will ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for years to come. The final comprehensive evaluation will be complete in January 2010.

Stay informed

The link below will help explain the nature of the Mint Farm groundwater supply and why it is necessary.  Be aware there will be future public meetings about the project.  We encourage you to stay abreast to participate as much as you can in these discussions as we move towards a final decision.
