Community Development Block Grant Program

The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) is an annually funded entitlement program from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Projects may be comprised of:

  • Community facilities
  • Economic development
  • Housing
  • Public facilities
  • Public services

Project Matching

Funding may also be used as a match for a project. Projects must principally benefit low and moderate income persons, prevent or eliminate blight, or meet an urgent need for public health or safety.

Community Support

Project proposers should have wide community support for their project and be able to strongly document the need for the project and benefit to low or moderate income persons. Income guidelines are published by HUD annually.

Applying for Funds

If you are interested in applying for these funds, you must submit a Project Design Application. Projects are due February 1 annually. The City Council reviews all Project Designs at the second City Council meeting in March and selects as many projects as funding will allow. Multi-year funded projects are also eligible. HUD funding varies each year. The project must be fully ready to proceed by the following October when funding is available. Projects have only one year to draw down the funding.
