February 14 City Council meeting in brief

  • Issued a proclamation for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month for February 2019
  • Presented Certificates of Appreciation to a number of volunteers whose terms serving on boards and commissions ended in 2018.
  • Removed Ordinance No. 3396 regarding LMC Chapter 16.32 – Unfit Structures for consideration at a future meeting.
  • Adopted Ordinance No. 3397 accepting donation of the sculptures “Peace Totem” and “The Chase” by the Longview Outdoor Gallery.
  • Approved Resolution No. 2290 adopting a policy regarding payment and use of right of vacation fees.
  • Approved Resolution No. 2291 authorizing an interlocal agreement with Cowlitz County for a property exchange to facilitate development of a hotel at the Cowlitz County Event Center.
  • Directed staff to develop a plan to create diagonal parking around the Civic Circle and present the plan for consideration at the March 28 city council meeting, with implementation targeted to be complete by June 1.
  • Awarded a construction contract to Lee Contractors in the amount of $68, 016.52 to construct concrete sidewalks at the Shay Locomotive..
  • Accepted as complete the R.A. Long Park Improvements - Phase 1 project.
  • Authorized the Police Department to submit an application for a $500,000 three-year duration grant from the federal Office of Violence Against Women’s 2019 Improving Criminal Justice Responses to Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Grant Program.
  • Approved a Severe Weather Shelter Fund policy and authorized implemention and disbursment of up to $9,000 per year appropriated in the 2019-2020 biennial budget.
